AndCo + KULA: 6 Simple Ways to Embrace a Plant-Based Diet

We teamed up with our friends and partners at And-Co to bring you 6 tips on how to embrace a plant-based diet.

1. Know it's not all or nothing

The first thing to know is that incorporating plant-based eating into your life doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing, high-pressure endeavor.

If you’re curious about plant-based eating, start small. Experiment, learn, and decide whether it works for you.

A good way to start is by opting to eat one plant-based meal per day and then adding more over time. You don’t have to go all in, all at once.

2.Replace a protein with a protein

Another easy way to start incorporating plant-based foods into your diet is by simply substituting a protein for a protein.

For example, if you’re making a stir fry, you can seamlessly replace chicken with a plant-based alternative like our Chikun, a high-protein chicken alternative which is gluten-free, soy-free, plant-based, and made with all-natural ingredients. High protein as well.

Many of the main foundational ingredients people use in their favourite dishes can be replaced with plant-based products that taste just as good and provide the same nutritional benefits.

3. Incorporate more smoothies into your diet

Making smoothies using oat or almond milk is an easy way to incorporate plant-based foods into your day, especially for busy professionals. They can pack a ton of flavour and provide a lot of nutrients.

Try blending together a variety of fruits, vegetables, and plant-based protein powders as well.

4. Find plant-based alternatives to your favourite foods

Moving to a plant-based diet doesn’t mean sacrificing the foods you love. Rather, it’s a matter of finding alternative ingredient options so you can continue enjoying your favourite meals.

Whether you love hamburgers, scrambled eggs, or pizza, the key is to find creative ways to make them plant-based–and with so many plant-based products, meal delivery services, and restaurants available, the opportunities are virtually endless.

5. Understand what you love about your favourite foods

When you’re considering how to begin with a plant-based diet, it’s wise to start from a place of considering what truly satiates you and what you really love about your favourite dishes–whether it’s textures, flavours, consistency, or nutritional content.

Then work backward to determine how you can recreate those same characteristics with a plant-based alternative.

One of the secondary benefits of this approach is that it will take you away from auto-pilot eating habits and compel you to be more thoughtful about what you eat and why so that you can make healthier and more conscious dietary choices.

6. Identify your food essentials

One of the easiest ways to make plant-based eating easy is to identify some essential base ingredients you love and then finding ways to build on them.

For example, you could pick a base like pasta or rice, choose your favourite produce, and find ways to fuse it all together.

This way, you won’t have to reinvent the wheel with every single meal.
